Dear Diary,
We did it. We sowed our first seeds! We planted potatoes! We planted tomatoes, tomatillos, and peppers on a beautiful June day. It was a hot day and just as we had planted the potatoes a car pulled up and an angel arrived with peonies in hand. Vikki Lyn stopped serendipitously to simply garden with some sisters, so we did. We learned it was Vikki’s birthing day as her son turned 37, sharing a birthday with my brother turning 51. We learned about the people we collectively know and enjoyed time in our market garden. We raked, removed clumps of orchard grass and big rocks, moved soil to make beds, and made a new friend.
Chief Mann, our neighboring farmer and Chief of the Lenape Turtle Clan, was gracious as he is and offered to spread some compost. He brought us five big tractor bucket loads and spread them across the front of the market garden where we worked. It is an incredible honor to share space with Chief and his Clan. Thank you to Peter Tishler of Seek no Further Fruit Farm for teaching me how to prep our field and for fixing my poor plowing in the lower half of our field as I am still learning!
I am beyond words at the experience we had on our first day on the land. It was so beautiful and fulfilling, and it feels so good to be making this dream a reality. We went home dirty, tired, and happy.
Thank you to God, Gaia, the Universe, to every single being and thing that has brought us to this place! As we create our gardens, we feel at home and right on time.

Dear Diary,
We are still planting…and planting…and planting. It is planting season. Does everyone know it is planting season? It seems there are some who do and many who do not. I had the thought that my son will be on the playground talking with his friends someday and will be shocked to learn they don’t know what planting season is. He knows because it is all I do right now and I love it so. Even though my body hurts; I wake up, stretch and do it all over again until the sun starts to set in the west. Sunset is such a lovely time at the farm.
We talked about our plans for a deer fence today. It is a difficult one…the plan…or the changing plan instead…we don’t want to be fenced in, so how to garden without one? Is it even possible? I believe Chief has an understanding with the animals, and they respect each other; however, I also believe only the indigenous people have this ability to connect in such a way with the wildlife of their land. We decided to ask his advice in the end and pray for the deer to eat other plants and not our market garden.
We do have plans for a fence too…however, as pretty as fences can be, they are still fences.

Dear Diary,
We are still planting...we planted many seeds today and we received a message from the Universe! In the midst of hoeing and talking with each other, I complained about the plastic left from the previous farmer. It was tilled in by another farmer and it boggles my mind how anyone would do that to the land. We want to eliminate plastic from our business in 3-5 years and with this particular plastic, it requires hours of picking it out of the fields as it appears after tillage or rain. In the hoeing, after an hour or so of picking plastic, I literally said: "maybe the plastic is here to constantly remind us how it is our purpose here on Earth to work with the soil and to heal the land" and in that moment, we heard the call of a blue heron flying high. She or he then perched themselves upon a tree in our back acreage for us to admire as we celebrated and danced around for this beautiful message- well received! Roger that Blue Herons, we are reporting to duty and happy to serve. The heron hung out in the tree for some time as we worked and then gracefully flew back over the Munsee Three Sisters Farm...what a lovely way to be assured, we are right on track and right on time. Grateful.

We planted our MILPA! Another fabulous day and another blue heron! When arriving home, one flew from the brook as I drove up to my house for a special interview. Blessed.

Happy Solstice Season! We planted our key hole. Today we planted a circle of seeds for the pollinators in the center of our market garden and it will be beautiful! Beauty is important as we incorporate the art among the agriculture. It will always amaze me how tiny seeds grow to become large plants and then they go on to produce so many more. Abundance.

We liberated the Sweet Maple! Our lovely sugar maple friend at the entrance of our farm is becoming a special place for gathering under as we removed some bittersweet from her limbs and cleared artemisia and multiflora rose away. Chief Mann offered a helping hand, yet this time it was in the form of a bucket loader on his tractor as he lifted me high into the sweet maple to remove some of the bittersweet from her upper limbs. We made wreaths from the bittersweet! What an incredibly fun day! We didn't want to stop but food and other obligations called us to. Love.
